Concept Group: optimizing the distribution center operation with Odyssey
The Odyssey consulting company has automated the distribution center of Concept Group, a major player in the Russian fashion market that produces and sells clothing under the brands Concept Club, Acoola, Infinity Lingerie, and Bestia. The retailer had been using a warehouse management system based on "1C" for several years. As the company developed, the number of nomenclature items and documents increased dramatically, and the former system, due to insufficient capacity, could no longer cope with the load. Working with the warehouse personnel was becoming increasingly difficult, as revision and support of the existing solution required significant resources. As a result, the company changed the system to Odyssey WMS based on Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.
The new information system Odyssey WMS supports all the warehousing operations of the Concept Group distribution complex fulfilling the orders of retail and wholesale chains, online stores and franchise partners. The system is integrated with data collection terminals and label printers. As a result of implementation, the company got a more productive and transparent in terms of data exchange, optimized and streamlined the management of internal logistics, simplified the work of staff. Distribution center of the trading company works in twenty-four-hour mode, picks and ships from 100 to 120 thousand products every day.
Collections are changed 10-15 times per year, and the company's active assortment consists of about 7.5 thousand trade items. Odyssey WMS supports cross-docking and multi-item storage: goods are assigned to cells according to color, model and size depending on their life cycle. The warehouse complex includes several physically remote warehouses, each with specific algorithms. For example, in the discount warehouse, goods are stored in trays and may contain different nomenclatures of the same brand. In the main warehouse, goods in the storage cells are selected based on brand, product group and collection, and mixing of different product groups is not allowed. The project team fine-tuned the product placement algorithms so as to limit the number of product items in one mixed cell. In addition, the system is configured for consolidated shipment of goods selected from different warehouses.
Concept Group is now fine-tuning Odyssey WMS so that employees in the main warehouse can select only current goods according to collection parameters. With the help of the new system, the retailer makes optimal use of warehouse space and resources, and always has up-to-date and accurate data on goods movement and stock balances, which allows the company to save up to several million rubles for each brand every month. Before being shipped to stores, each product is labeled with product and price information. Employees at the retail outlet scan the label with a POS, get the information they need to sell, and place the goods on the sales floor. There is no oversorting, the documentation is prepared in full due to the orders picking control which is supported by Odyssey WMS system. Acceptance time in the store has been reduced by a factor of 10.
Any task, time of its performance, personnel movements in the warehouse - everything is strictly recorded in the system. It is possible to analyze in real time which of the 440 employees in the warehouse over- and under-fulfilled the current norms. Using the system, the company precisely calculates the need for resources in each warehouse section and redistributes personnel if necessary. The WMS can track which employees worked how much during the shift and prepare reports accordingly.
