Pimcore: the single commodity catalog for the SPAR Middle Volga holding company

Srednevolzhsky holding consists of 3 companies: SPAR (retail), Sweet Life (wholesale supply of food products) and Sweet Life Food Service (supply of products for HoReCa). Assortment companies in the group overlap, but each had its own system to work with the catalog and individual design templates for product cards. Because of this, the companies' employees were forced to duplicate each other's work in different systems. The holding company management decided to create a unified catalog and turned to Odyssey to solve the problem. Odyssey consultants suggested Pimcore, a product catalog solution with flexible customization systems to fit the individual specifics of the company. The platform became a master system for product information from which the companies of the holding can import data into their accounting systems. To unify the look and content of the cards, SPAR and Odyssey jointly defined standards for filling in each of the fields. Odyssey consultants also made modifications to the system to automate the routine operations of holding employees. Now Pimcore notifies the employee if he/she enters information about a product for which a card already exists (the check is made by the barcode). When you enter text, the system automatically converts it so that it conforms to the standard, for example, changing the case of letters. A separate modification allows you to export and import data using Excel. A special pre-configured report helps to check the validity of certificates for each product.

A personal account was created for SPAR suppliers, in which they enter information about goods into the system. This approach helps speed up the appearance of new products in the catalog and reduces the number of manual operations for employees: information from suppliers only needs to be checked and not entered into the system manually. Currently, 10 trusted counterparties are connected to the supplier's personal account in test mode, but in the future the company plans to connect all suppliers to this tool.

In order to speed up verification of the information provided by the suppliers, Odyssey experts created an automatic tool for checking images. The system checks not only the file format and size of the images, but also their compliance with the company requirements: white background, image clarity, absence of filters, collages, extra objects in the photo, highlighting or shading, and additional captions in the photo. Another improvement implemented by Odyssey consultants is a flexible mechanism for controlling product category attributes: the cards reflect only those fields that are relevant to the category. For example, information about nutritional value and product category (lactose-free, dietary, halal, etc.) will be reflected for food suppliers. And for stationery products such categories won't be relevant, the system won't reflect these attributes in the card for them. This helps make the card informative for the online store customer and speeds up the process of entering data into the system: Pimcore reflects only those fields that need to be filled in according to the category of the goods.

Project results
The system was put into commercial operation in June 2021. Today more than 80 users and 10 suppliers are connected to Pimcore. The system processes data of over 260 thousand SKUs. Odyssey and SPAR continue to collaborate on the support and development of the solution
